Newcastle United are about to be overrun with goalkeepers as they near the completion of a move for Southampton stopper Aaron Ramsdale.

The former Arsenal goalkeeper is travelling for his medical with Newcastle ahead of a season-long loan from Championship side Southampton. The deal contains an option, not an obligation, to buy at the end of the season.

It's expected that Ramsdale will push Nick Pope for the number one spot at Newcastle with Martin Dubravka and perhaps even Odysseas Vlachodimos making way, although the latter would have to be a loan move for PSR reasons.

However, TalkSPORT have reported that Nick Pope could be the target of a Premier League club as they look to solve a goalkeeper crisis of their own.

Nick Pope is wanted by Manchester United

Manchester United are looking to solve their Andre Onana problem as the 29-year-old has been prone to some absolute howlers during his time at Old Trafford.

It seems that Ruben Amorim thinks that the perfect foil to Onana will be Nick Pope. Clearly he wasn't watching the Celtic game.

Nick Pope has proven himself many times to be one of the best shot stoppers in the Premier League, but when it comes to having the ball at his feet, he has the Toon Army terrified.

Would Newcastle fans be too concerned about losing Nick Pope?

There has been interest in Pope this summer with Leeds having looked at him before signing Lucas Perri, and there have been hints that Newcastle would be open to letting him leave, although Eddie Howe has shot those rumours down at any opportunity.

Newcastle fans likely won't be too concerned if Pope were to leave, with many campaigning for Martin Dubravka to retain the first-choice spot last season after deputising brilliantly when Pope was injured.

The arrival of Aaron Ramsdale is going to shake things up; there's no doubt about that, it just remains to be seen who drops out.
