Former Newcastle United number nine Dwight Gayle has found himself a new club after leaving Derby County during the summer.

During Newcastle's brief stay in the Championship in 2016/17 former Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle donned the number nine shirt for the Magpies and boy did he live up to the shirt in that season.

Gayle managed 23 goals in 32 appearances as Newcastle bounced straight back to the Premier League, however, Gayle was one of those players who needed another league between the Premier League and the Championship.

He was far too good for the Championship and found scoring easy, but once he stepped up to Premier League level he found goals very hard to come by. In fact, Gayle only scored 11 more goals for Newcastle outside of the 23 he bagged in the second-tier.

Gayle had a successful loan spell at West Brom in the Championship

In the 2018/19 season Gayle was loaned to West Bromwich Albion who were in the Championship and once again, Gayle scored 23 goals in the second-tier, but once again couldn't follow up that kind of goal-scoring form in the Premier League when he returned to Newcastle.

Stoke City eventually took Gayle off Newcastle's hands in 2022 and he spent almost two years at the Potters before his contract was terminated in February of this year

Derby County took the option to sign Gayle until the end of the season with the veteran striker making six appearances for the Rams before leaving at the end of the season.

Dwight Gayle has joined Hibs on a one-year deal

Gayle has been looking for a new club and today Scottish Premier League side Hibernian announced that the 34 year old has signed on at Tynecastle.

Hibs Head Coach David Gray called Gayle a different type of striker in the official press release.

“It’s great to be able to bring Dwight to the Club. He’s performed at a top-level throughout his career and has a real desire to show his abilities here in Scotland. He’s a different type of striker to what we currently have in the building. He’s a real penalty box type of striker, a great finisher, and his experience will be of great benefit to us. I look forward to working with him.”

Good luck up in Edinburgh, Dwight.
