This summer transfer window has been pretty slow even by Newcastle United's standards from the Mike Ashley days.

The incoming players have failed to ignite the spark in the Toon Army and there are still several players who we expected to have been shown the door still on the books.

Meanwhile, the only sign of any outgoings seems to be young prospects leaving on loan with Jamie Miley, after impressing in pre-season, being told he can go out on loan this season along with Alfie Harrison and Joe White, according to The Chronicle.

The Chronicle also claims that Harrison Ashby could be allowed to leave on a permanent basis should a decent offer come in for the 22-year-old.

Harrison Ashby spent last season at Swansea

West Ham fans had us believing we'd signed the second coming of Trippier

Ashby arrived at Newcastle from West Ham in a £3 million deal in January 2023 after a pretty lengthy pursuit and was immediately compared to Kieran Trippier.

We all thought we'd bagged the next big thing, especially given how revered he was by the West Ham fanbase and the fact that he cost us £3 million after making just one Premier League appearance.

Unfortunately, things just haven't panned out for the promising right-back and when Newcastle brought in £32 million Tino Livramento last summer, the writing appeared on the wall for Ashby.

Ashby has all the hallmarks of a Dan Ashworth signing

Ashby spent last season out on loan at Swansea but it was a season hampered by injury - it seems Newcastle's curse affected all players on the books whether they were at the club or not.

There have always been whispers that Newcastle would be willing to let him go. It very much seems like another one of those Dan Ashworth signings that Eddie Howe didn't want, like Garang Kuol.

It's a shame as I had high hopes for Ashby, but it looks as though we might have to chalk this one in the failure column.
