Newcastle United have to battle the FFP overlords if they want to see out the project and break into that "big six" which means player sales are an inevitability.

Whatever guise the new Financial Fair Play/Profit and Sustainability rules take after the summer shakeup, the reality is that clubs will still not be able to go wild and spend what they want in the transfer market which means that Newcastle will still have to box clever.

There has been lots of talk that the Magpies could be forced to sell one of their big stars this summer with Bruno Guimaraes often used as the example, but we don't think times will be that desperate just yet.

Newcastle could hold a bit of a fire sale and move on some first-team players who aren't of Bruno's quality thus raising funds, freeing up squad space and clearing the wage bill.

Hands up if you're leaving Newcastle this summer

Almiron turned down a move to Saudi Arabia in January

One player who it appears has been earmarked for departure is Paraguayan winger Miguel Almiron who was close to an exit in January but the deal collapsed.

Al-Shabab in Saudi Arabia had verbally agreed a deal with Newcastle for Miggy, but the player turned down the chance to move opting to stay on Tyneside.

Since then, Jacob Murphy has been preferred to Almiron by Eddie Howe with Miggy reduced to being an impact sub. This could just be coincidence but the timing is suspicious.

Newcastle could recoup a large chunk of what they paid for Almiron in 2019

Now journalist Ben Jacobs has told Give Me Sport that Newcastle will be willing to listen to offers for Almiron in the summer.

Miggy was at one point Newcastle's record signing coming in from Atlanta United for £21million, and after a slow start in the Premier League, Miggy has at times shown flashes of brilliance. October 2022 was a real purple patch for the 30-year-old which saw him scoring in almost every game.

There is expected to be plenty of interest in Almiron but how much of that £21million Newcastle can recoup is anyone's guess, but it might not be too big of a hit given how long he's been at the club.
