Newcastle United's statement confirming Alexander Isak's Liverpool move speaks volumes
Liverpool last night confirmed the signing of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United for a British record £125 million.
The saga that dominated the summer finally reached a conclusion with Alexander Isak showing that if you act like a spoilt brat, you can get what you want.
Newcastle fans have enjoyed pointing out the irony of Isak signing a six-year contract at Liverpool with the striker having done the same when he signed for Newcastle, for whatever that was worth.
Isak's first interview with Liverpool was essentially just the 25-year-old speaking about himself the entire time, which was in stark contrast to that of Yoane Wissa after his arrival at Newcastle, which we'll come to in a separate piece.
Alexander Isak may need a cognitive test as his memory is terrible
Isak spoke about wanting to create history and win trophies and said that Liverpool is the place to do that.
Has he already forgotten about the history he made with Newcastle United last season and the trophy he won while he was here?
Any shred of respect that I had for Isak after his conduct this summer has now completely evaporated.
Those are some pretty scorched bridges
It's clear that the sentiment is echoed inside the club too, as the official website broke the news of Isak's departure with the driest 37-word statement you're ever likely to read.
"Newcastle United can announce the sale of striker Alexander Isak to Liverpool for a significant British record transfer fee.
"The Sweden international joined the Magpies from Real Sociedad in 2022 and made 109 appearances in all competitions."
We're sure that if they could have got away with it, that statement would have just been two words and the second one would have been 'off'.
