Newcastle United's Nick Woltemade heads to Germany to link up with national team but doubts over fitness remain
Newcastle United striker Nick Woltemade had been called up to represent Germany by Julian Nagelsmann, but a statement by the German FA on Monday raised doubts over his availability.
A statement released by the German FA on Monday said that Woltemade would not travel to Germany to link up with his international teammates due to a 'flu infection'.
This came just hours after the 6'6" striker had netted another goal for Newcastle in the game against Nottingham Forest.
However, the German FA have now released another statement saying that Woltemade is Germany-bound, but there are still doubts over his involvement in the next two fixtures.
Nick Woltemade has travelled to Germany after all
Germany is set to take on Luxembourg and Northern Ireland in their World Cup qualifying group on Friday and Monday, respectively, but it's still unclear whether Woltemade will be involved following this statement from the German camp.
“Nick Woltemade is expected to arrive at the German national team’s headquarters in Herzogenaurach late Tuesday evening.
“The striker from English Premier League club Newcastle United, who has made four senior appearances so far, was initially unable to travel to the German national team on Monday due to a flu infection.
“It remains to be seen when Woltemade will be able to return to team training.”
It could go either way for Nick Woltemade
You'd imagine that with it just being an illness rather than an injury, Woltemade would likely be able to shake it off quickly and could be involved in the game against Northern Ireland.
That being said, Friday to Monday is a pretty quick turnaround, so there is a chance our new striker may just have to watch from the sidelines.
We'd love to see Woltemade get off the mark for the senior national side, but at the same time, we'd rather make sure he returned to Newcastle fully fit and flu-free.
