Newcastle United's £69 million summer signing Nick Woltemade got off to a dream start at his new club today, scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The German international's club record-breaking move raised a few eyebrows, given the price tag attached and the fact that the 23-year-old is largely unproven, but a debut goal will do wonders to ease those worries.

Along with his goal, Woltemade put in an excellent shift before being withdrawn just after the hour mark, which, Keith Downie has posted on X was at the player's request after he started cramping up.

The 6'6" striker is bizarrely not known for his aerial prowess, with most of his goals in Germany coming via his feet, but Woltemade told NUFC TV that he's specifically been working on his heading to take advantage of his frame.

Nick Woltemade was told by Jacob Murphy that he'd be putting plenty of crosses in for him

Jacob Murphy had told Wotlemade he'd be pinging crosses in for him, so he's been developing that side of his game.

"I was already working hard in Stuttgart to make my heading better, and now we keep working here on it.

"I think this could be better for me if I can score goals with my head."

The Murphy/Woltemade partnership is off to a flying start

Woltemade looks set to continue as Newcastle's primary front man on Thursday, with Eddie Howe unable to provide any update on Yoane Wissa's condition after the game.

Hopefully, the German can stick it out longer than an hour against Barcelona before he starts to cramp up again.

A Woltemade goal from a Murphy assist - could this be the new dynamic duo for Newcastle?
