Newcastle United booked their place in the FA Cup fourth round draw thanks to a penalty shootout against Bournemouth.

The Magpies had to fight hard to see off one of their biggest bogey teams in order to progress in the FA Cup.

Eddie Howe's record against his old club leaves a lot to be desired so when the third round drew Newcastle against the Cherries, many fans assumed it would be a third-round exit.

It took 120 minutes and 18 spot kicks to settle the tie, but thanks to three big saves from Aaron Ramsdale, Newcastle were in the hat for the fourth round.

Aston Villa v Newcastle United will be broadcast live on the BBC

Newcastle's reward was an away tie at fellow Premier League side Aston Villa. Nothing is ever easy for the Magpies.

It's a mouthwatering tie that has unsurprisingly been picked for live broadcast.

The BBC will air the fourth round tie from Villa Park, which will take place on Saturday 14th February with a 5:45 pm kick-off, so if you've made Valentine's Day reservations, you might want to push them back.

February is going to be huge for Newcastle in terms of potential cup glory

The Carabao Cup semi-final second leg will have been and gone by then, by which point we'll have confirmation of what we all suspect to be the case, that there'll be no final for the Magpies this year, which could make this tie even more important.

If we can't defend our League Cup crown, then there's no better time to turn around our FA Cup fortunes.

Although we would say that finishing as high as possible in the League and potentially getting back into the Champions League should be our priority if we can't retain the Carabao Cup.
