Former Newcastle United man Federico Fernandez is calling time on his career and is set to play his last game on 21st December.

The 6'3" defender made over 30 appearances for the Argentina national side and during his club career had spells in Argentina, Italy, Spain, England (and Wales) and Qatar.

Newcastle signed Fernandez from Swansea for £6 million in 2018, reuniting him with Rafa Benitez with whom he'd worked at Napoli.

Fernandez had some monumental moments in defence for the Magpies and proved to be a Benitez bargain.

Fede Fernandez was riddled with injuries towards the end of his Newcastle spell

Fernandez is one of those players who always seemed to go under the radar. We only really noticed him when he was missing.

Injuries put an early end to his Newcastle career before he moved on to Spanish side Elche for whom he made just one appearance before moving to Qatar and then back to Estudiantes in Argentina.

We wish Fede the best of luck with whatever he chooses to do next.
