This summer's transfer window is expected to be very different for Newcastle United after the last three windows have seen Newcastle very reluctant to participate.

Thanks to Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), Newcastle United, the club with the richest backers in the Premier League with a near-endless supply of money, has been unable to spend.

But thanks to some patience and planning, and a lot of frustration for fans, the club are in a much better position to spend money heading into this summer's split transfer window.

Thanks to the Club World Cup, there will be a break in the transfer window, which will pretty much align with the PSR reporting deadline, which caused Newcastle so much strife last summer when they had to sanction deals for Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson to avoid a points deduction.

Eddie Howe is hoping Newcastle can get an early start in the transfer window

While Newcastle are fortunate enough to not be in that position again this year, not every club is so lucky, and as such, the Magpies will look to exploit that to get some early business done.

Eddie Howe pretty much confirmed as much in his Friday morning press conference, saying that clubs were right to exploit Newcastle last summer, and they will do it to other clubs this year.

“I’ve made it clear last year that there’s almost two transfer windows now. The PSR deadline (June 30th) plays a huge role for clubs – both those clubs with PSR issues and those without, because those without may potentially look to try to sign players.

“They will look to take advantage of other clubs, as clubs did to us last year, quite rightly. It’s a really interesting dynamic, one that we’re aware of and that we’ll try to use to our advantage, if we can.

“I can’t go into details but we’ve got people at the club who are working very hard behind the scenes on it.

“It’s great that the window opens on June 1. The challenge is for us to sign players in early June. But it doesn’t always work like that. I hope in reality it does, but it rarely works like that. It gets harder and harder to sign good players. So I’d rather sign the right player than settle for someone and get them in early, but let’s wait and see. It is very difficult to predict.”

Newcastle are ready to pounce early for players this summer

It sounds as though the club are ready to strike in the first part of the transfer window and are very keen to get business done early which will be a huge change of pace.

Newcastle have been notoriously slow at getting deals done, even when they were spending money like it was going out of fashion. It seemed to take ages to formally announce signings.

Hopefully, that's a thing of the past, and we can get players in quickly so they can have as much time as possible in pre-season to get acclimated to the Eddie Howe way.
