Newcastle United ended up having an even more frantic end to the summer transfer window than we thought.

The Magpies sold Alexander Isak and brought in Yoane Wissa on deadline day, but Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie revealed on X that Newcastle almost missed out on signing their £55 million striker due to an administrative error.

Newcastle submitted a deal sheet for the Wissa transfer, which allows a club a bit of extra time to get the paperwork done beyond the deadline, which was 7pm on Monday.

A deal sheet grants the club two extra hours to complete and file the required paperwork, and Newcastle managed to get the Wissa deal ratified with 30 seconds to spare.

Newcastle came within a whisker of missing out on Yoane Wissa

According to Keith Downie, Wissa had missed a signature from the paperwork, which resulted in a mad dash to find the forward and get the required signature in time.

😮‍💨 Yoane Wissa’s Deadline Day move to Newcastle was completed with under 30 seconds to spare!
📝 ❌ Wissa had failed to sign one of the forms and it was left to one of his representatives to sprint through Newcastle's training ground to find the striker and get him to hurriedly sign the document with a couple of minutes of the deal sheet extension period left.
☑️ Eventually the £55m signing was ratified at 8.59pm — two hours after the initial 7pm deadline.
🚗 💨 Wissa had driven up to Newcastle from London through the night on Sunday to be in position to undergo a medical and formalise his transfer.
✈️ 🥴 And the travelling doesn't stop now for the striker — he’s now en route to join up with his DR Congo international teammates ahead of their World Cup qualifier away to South Sudan on Friday.

It would have been the most Newcastle United thing to ever Newcastle United

Could you imagine the embarrassment and the outrage if Newcastle missed out on Yoane Wissa due to one missing signature on the paperwork?

After waiting for weeks to get the green light for the deal to go through only to have it collapse due to an administrative oversight.

It would have been peak Newcastle United. Thank god we dodged that bullet.
