Newcastle United weigh up third bid for Yoane Wissa as striker trains alone despite return of teammates
Newcastle United remain in the hunt for Brentford striker Yoane Wissa despite things having gone quiet over the past few days.
The DR Congo forward is not happy with Brentford, feeling that they have gone back on a gentleman's agreement that was made last year.
Brentford allegedly told Wissa that if an offer of £30 million came in from a European club this summer, he'd be allowed to leave, but with Thomas Frank having left and the club selling Christian Norgaard and Bryan Mbeumo, Brentford are now reluctant to let their main goal threat leave.
Newcastle have made a bid of £25 million, followed by another of £30+£5 million, but Brentford re demanding £50 million, while Wissa has told the club he'll not play for them again and even left their Portugal training camp to train alone in London.
Ben Jacobs says Yoane Wissa wants the Newcastle move
Brentford returned to their home training ground today with Wissa expected to rejoin his teammates in training, but Ben Jacobs has now claimed on X that was not the case, as Wissa holds firm on wanting the move to Newcastle.
Yoane Wissa wants to join Newcastle and a third offer is not ruled out. Newcastle already bid £25m and £30m+5m.
As revealed earlier, Wissa did not train today despite reports. And he's been doing solo work only this week.🐝
Yoane Wissa still feels likely to end up at Newcastle despite the delay
There's still a strong feeling that this is a move that will go through one way or another, but this will only solve one problem for Newcastle, as Wissa is seen as the replacement for Callum Wilson.
Eddie Howe will still want another high-level striker to join the squad, regardless of whether or not Alexander Isak leaves this summer. Benjamin Sesko is the top target, but with Manchester United also keen and all rumours suggesting they'd be his preferred destination, Newcastle are also exploring other options.
Other names on Newcastle's list are Randal Kolo Muani, though he wants to return to Juventus, Ollie Watkins, who is also being tracked by Man United, and Nicolas Jackson, who was so bad for Chelsea for much of last season, we'd definitely rather not, please and thank you. Although let's be honest, one bad season does not a poor player make.
