Newcastle United up to sixth in Premier League after stunning win over Leeds United
Words cannot describe the emotional rollercoaster that Newcastle United supporters have just been on as they came from behind three times before taking the lead in the dying moments of the game against Leeds United.
On a day when we found out the sad news about Kevin Keegan's cancer diagnosis, our lads put together the most Keegan-esque display in recent memory.
Newcastle really didn't make it easy for themselves, and for the first half an hour of the game, we were wondering if our lads even cared about the game at all.
It took Brenden Aaronson's 32nd-minute opener to wake up a narcoleptic Newcastle, and it wasn't long after that that Harvey Barnes picked up his customary goal against Leeds to level things up.
The referee had a shocker all night, but his decision to award Leeds a penalty was definitely his worst call
Then, on the stroke of half-time, the touch paper was well and truly lit as Malick Thiaw conceded a penalty via a controversial handball decision. The referee pointed to the spot far too quickly, and VAR was never going to overturn it, but we feel that if the ref hadn't spotted the handball, VAR wouldn't have awarded it either.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin stepped up and calmly slotted home to give Leeds a 2-1 advantage at the break.
It didn't take Newcastle long in the second half to cancel that one out. Eddie Howe made two changes at the break, hooking Sandro Tonali, who had been quiet again and Malick Thiaw, who had a disastrous first half, which saw him at fault for Leeds' opener and then conceding the penalty. Tino Livramento and Sven Botman replaced them.
Joelinton's header was the pick of the bunch in a seven-goal thriller
Newcastle's second equaliser was probably the pick of the bunch tonight as Lewis Miley somehow kept the ball in play right on the corner flag before playing it to Bruno Guimaraes, who played a sweet little cross into the area with the outside of his boot, which was nodded home by Joelinton.
There was a long stoppage during the second half as Fabian Schar had to be stretchered off the pitch after falling awkwardly during a challenge. It didn't look good, and we hope Fabi is okay.
With just over 10 minutes left on the clock, Brenden Aaronson struck again for Leeds, and it was starting to feel like it just wasn't going to be our night.
Who was your Player of the Match against Leeds?
That one was for you, Kevin Keegan!
There had been a couple of intense goal-line scrambles, the post had been hit a couple of times, and it just felt like it wasn't meant to be for Newcastle.
Until Brenden Aaronson was involved again, this time being judged to have handled the ball inside the box, and the referee (who had a stinker all night in fairness), rightly pointed to the spot. In the absence of Anthony Gordon, who had been substituted after another poor display, Bruno Guimaraes stepped up and made no mistake from the spot. That was his third goal in as many games and his eighth of the season, his highest tally in a Toon shirt.
Thanks to all the stoppage time from Fabian Schar's injury, there was still time for another twist. And Leeds, who made a triple substitution in injury time, may wish they hadn't bothered because those extra couple of minutes allowed Harvey Barnes to pop up again with his second of the night, Newcastle's fourth and decisive goal.
The game left us utterly breathless. I could feel my hair turning greyer and greyer as time went on. This is going to be one to remember for sure.
Get well soon, Fabian Schar, and that one was for you, King Kev!
