Newcastle United to reignite interest in young forward who turned them down last year
When Newcastle United set their sights on a player, they don't tend to give up easily, and even after they've been knocked back, they still retain an interest.
Newcastle chased Sven Botman and Malick Thiaw for a long time before finally getting their man, see also Anthony Elanga.
So it's no surprise when the transfer window comes around that we see familiar names reappear.
This time, the story comes from Africa Foot, and they claim that despite missing out on Christian Kofane in the summer, Newcastle are keen to try again.
Christian Kofane rejected Newcastle in the summer to move to Bayer Leverkusen
Newcastle were among several big clubs looking at Kofane in the summer, but the Cameroonian opted to move ot the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen, where he's racked up five goals and five assists already this season.
His form has continued into the African Cup of Nations too, where he's netted two goals in three appearances.
This is said to have reignited Newcastle's interest as well as that of Manchester United and Real Madrid.
It seems a bit soon for Leverkusen to be considering letting Kofane go
With the 19-year-old having only just moved to Leverkusen in the summer, this one feels like it will be a tricky deal to do, however.
Although if Newcastle authorise an exit for Will Osula this month, Kofane seems like the perfect kind of player to replace him.
Bayer Leverkusen paid only £4.3 million for Kofane, however, and could find themselves making quite a profit if they were to let him go this month, so if the money is right, we may see some movement, but we're not overly convinced by this one.
