Newcastle United to face Premier League opposition in Carabao Cup fourth round following emphatic third-round win over Bradford
Newcastle United continued the streak of the Carabao Cup holders progressing to the fourth round of the competition by dismantling Bradford City 4-1 at St James' Park.
It has been over 11 years since the Carabao Cup holders were knocked out at the third round when Swansea City held the title, and Newcastle United were the latest side to keep that streak alive tonight.
Joelinton and Will Osula scored a brace each as the Magpies breezed into the hat for the fourth round draw, which took place after Arsenal booked their place following a 2-0 win over Port Vale.
There are no gimmicks now that the third round is out of the way; all the balls went into the same bowl, no split pots or pre-draws here.
It's another home draw for Newcastle in the Carabao Cup
Newcastle United were drawn out as the home team once again, but will face Premier League opposition in the fourth round as Tottenham Hotspur were drawn out of the bowl.
The Magpies have a good record against Spurs, so won't be too worried about this one, you'd like to think.
There were a few lower league sides still in the draw, but it wasn't meant to be for Eddie Howe's men.
Newcastle don't like taking the easy way to Wembley
Newcastle did it the hard way last season, so we're not averse to taking down some big clubs on the way to lifting the trophy again.
The tie is due to be played week commencing 27th October and is potentially the pick of the bunch alongside the all-Welsh tie, Wrexham v Cardiff.
We're going to have to work for it again, but that will just make it all the sweeter when we lift the trophy again in March.
