Newcastle United to be compensated by FA following Yoane Wissa injury - Craig Hope
Just days after finally signing for Newcastle United after weeks of trying to push through the move, Yoane Wissa headed off on international duty, where he'd come back with a fresh injury.
The DR Congo striker had scored two and created one in the minutes he played for his country, but the 29-year-old picked up a freak knee injury in the second game of the international break.
Eddie Howe has confirmed that, despite rumours, it wasn't an ACL injury and won't require surgery, but the new signing isn't likely to make his first appearance for the club until after the next international break.
That's at least three more matches he's set to miss, having already missed four matches since he signed.
Newcastle will receive compensation from the FA for Yoane Wissa
It's not much of a consolation given Newcastle's desperate need for a regular goal scorer, but the Magpies are set to be handed compensation by the FA.
Craig Hope reported in his Newcastle Confidential column on Thursday that Newcastle will receive a CPP payout from the FA (Club Protection Programme).
The CPP supports domestic football clubs when players are injured playing for their country and subsequently ruled out for more than 28 days.
The FA will cover Yoane Wissa's wages from 7th October
The payout will essentially cover Wissa's wages from 7th October until he makes his return to action, which has been projected at being the Brighton game after the next international break.
It's a small victory in what has been an awful situation. As much as Newcastle fans want to see Wissa in action, we imagine the urge to make his debut has been even stronger for the player himself.
Wissa fought to get this move this summer, and while we absolutely don't agree with how he went about things, we have to take encouragement in the fact that it shows that he really wanted to play for our club.
Hopefully, he can quickly make us forget about his dodgy transfer tactics by scoring plenty of goals when he returns to fitness.
