In the context of Newcastle United's season, today's game against Nottingham Forest is huge. Potentially the biggest league game of the season so far.

After suffering a heavy defeat last week, Newcastle desperately need to bounce back with a convincing performance to restore the faith. Our league form has been well below average lately and we're falling behind in the race for the top four.

Nottingham Forest sit in third place in the Premier League and six points ahead of Newcastle, so this really is a six-pointer in terms of the Champions League race.

Eddie Howe has made a few changes to the lineup for today after last week's horror show, but one change seems to have been forced.

Sandro Tonali drops to the bench

Sandro Tonali misses out on the starting lineup

Nick Pope has regained the number one spot from Martin Dubravka, which was always going to happen at some point, and after leaking four goals last week, it seems the right time to make the switch.

Tino Livramento reclaims his place in the starting lineup from Kieran Trippier who had a nightmare last week against Manchester City.

Rumours were circulating that Sandro Tonali wasn't going to be fit to play today, and given he's having to make do with a place on the bench, that does suggest he's not 100% as there's no way Joe Willock would have his place if Tonali was fully fit.

As expected, Lewis Miley has been brought into the midfield after his impressive showing last week.

Nottingham Forest boast three former Newcastle players in their starting XI

It's a hat-trick of former Magpies in the Nottingham Forest starting lineup with Matz Sels in goal and Chris Wood up front.

Meanwhile, Elliot Anderson makes his return to St James' Park after his controversial departure in the summer.

It's a strong side for Forest, and Newcastle really are going to have to be on the top of their game to get the three points today.
