It was inevitable that we'd get to the summer transfer season and Newcastle United would be linked with Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi once again after the epic saga that unfolded last year.

While Crystal Palace held all the cards last summer, the pendulum has swung in Newcastle's favour this year with Guehi entering the final year of his contract with the Eagles.

Steve Parish must now face the prospect of losing his star player for free next year, or cashing in this year while he can.

Newcastle are reportedly still very keen on Guehi, with Eddie Howe desperate to land the England centre-back, seeing him as the perfect fit for Newcastle.

Newcastle are favourites to sign Marc Guehi

Marc Guehi isn't swayed by Tottenham Hotspur's Champions League qualification

There are plenty of other clubs keen on Guehi, though, so once again, it won't be easy for Newcastle. However, The Times are reporting that one club who are eyeing Guehi stand very little chance of signing the 24-year-old.

Despite qualifying for the Champions League, Guehi has no interest in joining Tottenham Hotspur after they made a bid in January.

It's hardly surprising given where Spurs finished in the league this season and the turmoil that the club is in with the uncertainty around Ange Postecoglou.

Newcastle are favourites to land Marc Guehi

Chelsea and Real Madrid have both been credited with an interest in Guehi, but sources told Geordie Boot Boys that there's a confidence that Newcastle can get the deal done.

The determination that Newcastle have shown in the pursuit of Guehi has got to be flattering for the player, and having seen what the Magpies have achieved this season, and indeed since Eddie Howe took charge, we must be looking very appealing.

Guehi always seemed keen on the move last season, but Palace knew they were in a strong position to keep hold of him. Now that position has weakened, we expect Guehi to move, and Newcastle does seem like his most likely destination.
