Newcastle United announced via social media "We are back" on Thursday morning as many player returned to Darsley Park for training.

Joe Willock, who missed much of last season through injury is back in training ahead of the new season where he'll be hoping to put behind them the nightmare of the last campaign.

Newcastle sorely missed Willock last season as Eddie Howe had to rely on Sean Longstaff more than he'd maybe have liked, especially given that he was playing with a broken foot for much of the season.

Also pictured for the first time in training were new signings Lloyd Kelly, John Ruddy and Odysseas Vlachodimos.

Players returning form international duty will be given more time off

There are still plenty of players yet to return with Bruno Guimaraes and Miguel Almiron having been on Copa America duty and Fabian Schar and Martin Dubravka also having been at Euro 2024.

Kieran Trippier and Anthony Gordon remain on international duty with England set to take on Spain in the European Championship final on Sunday before presumably being given a break before returning to pre-season.

Newcastle will fly out to Germany to take advantage of their new partnership with Adidas to use their state-of-the-art facilities at the World of Sports HQ which may include some form of friendly match.

Newcastle have a decent pre-season schedule ahead

Newcastle definitely get their pre-season friendlies underway on 27th July as they head to Hull City.

A trip to Japan follows that with two fixtures lined up against Urawa Red Diamonds and Yokohama F. Marinos.

It's then back to England for the Sela weekender at St James' Park which will see the Magpies take on Girona on Friday 9th August and Stade Brestois on Saturday 10th.
