This month, Newcastle United could really do with bringing in some defensive cover. The centre-back position is looking rather light due to injuries, but with Dan Burn back in training, that urgency seems to be fading.

However, the full-back positions are certainly weak, particularly on the left where Lewis Hall only really has Dan Burn for back-up.

Tino Livramento has done a good job on the left when needed, but now he is out injured for a while, and there are huge question marks over his future at the club with Manchester City very keen to take him off our hands, and it does seem like Tino is keen on that move also.

Kieran Trippier has returned from injury but is now 35 and out of contract in the summer, so with his future uncertain, the right-back position is looking shaky too.

Joaquin Seys is wanted by Newcastle

Newcastle have two exciting young full-backs on their radar

Newcastle have their eyes on Dayann Methalie for the right-back position, but rumours are intensifying over interest in Club Brugge left-back Joaquin Seys, according to the Daily Mail.

Seys burst onto the scene with the Belgian side last season and has impressed in the Champions League.

The 20-year-old is a left-back but can cover on the right side too, which is exactly what Eddie Howe needs right now, making Seys an ideal acquisition.

We're losing faith in this transfer window

The issue is that Club Brugge are going for the title in Belgium and are still involved in the Champions League, so they are going to be very reluctant to part with Seys this month.

It sounds like this one may be a bit too difficult to get over the line before the transfer deadline in under two weeks.

The window is closing, and Newcastle still show no signs of acting. That feeling that the same squad that has struggled all season is going to have to keep going until the summer.
