Newcastle United striker Will Osula still a Magpie as deadline day move to Eintracht Frankfurt falls apart
Newcastle United will continue their season with three centre-forwards available to Eddie Howe after all.
Yesterday it was reported that Danish Under-21 star Will Osula was heading to Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal worth around £30 million.
It would have been a nice tidy profit on the player Newcastle signed from Sheffield United last summer for £10 million; however, it would have once again left Newcastle understaffed in the striker department.
The hill we were willing to die on was that Newcastle United couldn't go into another season with just two strikers in the squad. Granted, we have Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade now, who may be available for more games than Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson were, but having a third option is just common sense.
Will Osula's deadline day move to Eintracht Frankfurt fell apart
The jury is very much still out on Will Osula, but it felt a bit premature to be selling him. He was brought in as a project player, and abandoning that project so soon seemed harsh.
For whatever reason, the proposed move to Frankfurt fell apart before the deadline on Monday evening, as confirmed by Keith Downie on X after the window had closed.

There was talks of a near-£30m move for the striker, but it’s not gone through…

Will Osula is a late-sub wildcard that Newcastle need
In a Champions League season, we feel a lot better knowing that there's a third option available to Eddie Howe. He may not be as good as we need right now, and a loan move could probably have been beneficial, but that again would have left us short of options.
He doesn't need to be a regular starter, but to have him on the bench in those games where you just need a wildcard to come on and mix things up, he's ideal.
He proved last week against Liverpool that he can cause problems and nick goals. He may lack that fine-tuning, but there is a player in there, and Eddie Howe will get it out of him.
