Oxford United clinched promotion to the Championship today with a 2-0 win over Bolton Wanderers in the play-off final at Wembley.
Both of Oxford's goals were scored by a man who may look very familiar to Newcastle United fans - Josh Murphy. Jacob Murphy's twin brother scored two stunning goals for Oxford to send them up to the second tier.
Murphy's first goal was a thunderous effort after the winger had the ball at the edge of the area and seeing no better option when he looked up, unleashed a fierce effort towards the far corner. A helpful Bolton defender got just enough contact on it to loop it over the diving goalkeeper.
The second saw Oxford utilise that trademark Murphy pace with a ball over the top for Murphy to latch on to, knock beyond the 'keeper and slot home. I'm making that sound easier than it actually was too, as the ball, and indeed Murphy were travelling at some pace.
After the game Sky Sports spoke with Josh Murphy on the pitch where he gave a little acknowledgement to his brother, Newcastle winger, Jacob.
"I want to play in these big moments and my brother says it's my time to shine, and I think I've done that today."
The brothers share that closeness that only twins can understand, and Josh recently revealed that the two text each other during their games if one is able to watch so that when they go back to the dressing room they have a load of text messages praising or critiquing their performances.
Back in 2018 Josh and Jacob became only the second set of twins to ever face each other in a Premier League game while Josh was playing for Cardiff City and Jacob was at Newcastle.
With Newcastle playing at Brentford tomorrow and therefore down in the area, Josh was hoping that Jacob would have been given permission to attend the final at Wembley today, but we're not sure whether he made it.
Jacob did, however, take the time to praise his brother via his Instagram reels calling him the man of the moment and saying "You deserve this big bro".
Congratulations to Josh, and let's hope Jacob can bag a brace tomorrow to equal the achievement. Not to be greedy or anything.
