Newcastle United's pursuit of a new striker has not been a fun one to watch from the sidelines as a fan. Hugo Ekitike, Joao Pedro and Liam Delap all opted to go elsewhere despite interest from the Magpies.

It's becoming more and more evident that PSR is still killing the game. Even when Newcastle have bided their time to ensure they had enough headroom to operate this summer, the fact that other clubs can still offer double or triple the wages we can shows something is not right.

So Newcastle continue to look for a striker who can play alongside, and instead of Alexander Isak, is Premier League ready and also up to Champions League level ... and is willing to join Newcastle under their current wage structure.

It's not an easy task, but right now, there are three names in the headlines that Newcastle are looking at, and each one has their pros and cons.

Why aren't teams fighting over Benjamin Sesko?

Newcastle have a few options available to them for a new striker

The trio in question are Brentford's Yoane Wissa, PSG's Randal Kolo Muani and Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig.

Kicking off with Yoane Wissa, there's no doubting his Premier League credentials after a stunning 19-goal season last time out. More than any other non-penalty-taking player. He has been consistently good for Brentford, but he does lack Champions League experience. More importantly, though, Wissa turns 29 shortly after the season gets underway, which puts him very much in the twilight of his career.

Wissa is expected to be available for around £40 million, which may seem like a lot for a 28-year-old, but for a Premier League-proven striker, it could be a lot worse. It will also mean that Newcastle retain a big chunk of its budget for other projects. As a DR Congo international, Wissa will also be unavailable in January as the African Cup of Nations gets underway.

We have our favourite of the three options

Randal Kolo Muani is an interesting one. He has the talent, he has the experience, but the fact that Paris Saint-Germain are so keen to offload him so soon after bringing him in for over £76 million is a massive red flag. Getting into the PSG side isn't easy, sure, but if you're forking out that much money, you surely expect them to be in the mix. Kolo Muani spent the second half of last season out on loan at Juventus, who did want to keep hold of him, but have seemingly failed.

If Eddie Howe is able to extract the best out of Kolo Muani like he has with so many players before him, he could be worth a shot. However, he's unlikely to be cheap, and equally as unlikely to be able to hit the ground running. At 26, he's closer to the age profile of who we should be looking at, but still over the high end of the spectrum in reality.

Meanwhile, Benjamin Sesko ticks a lot of boxes in terms of his style of play and finishing ability. He's only 22 and has plenty of international and Champions League experience. He may not have Premier League experience, but he has the profile of a player who'd do well in the English top flight, which is why Arsenal were so keen to sign him before they turned their attention to Viktor Goykeres.

Which brings us to the negatives. The fact that Arsenal pivoted away from Sesko is a cause for concern, as is the fact that nobody else has entered the race for him as yet. What do clubs know that we don't? Additionally, RB Leipzig is holding out for a hefty £70 million+ fee for the Slovenian.

Each player has their pros and cons, but as things stand, for us, we say go all in for Benjamin Sesko. He ticks all the right boxes despite lacking that Premier League experience. Our biggest concern isn't his price, but why nobody seems to be pushing very hard to sign him, but while we don't know why that is, we should be the club that does push.
