Newcastle United represented in WhoScored? Premier League Team of the Month
Newcastle United haven't had the strongest of starts to the Premier League season, given that they have just six points from as many games.
Indeed, Newcastle have just one win to their name in the league this season, and that came at home against bottom-of-the-league Wolverhampton Wanderers.
However, despite the results not going the Magpies' way, they have put in some top performances and in terms of their defence, they have been pretty rock solid, with only the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal breaching the back line.
It's therefore hardly a surprise that the one Newcastle United player to make it into WhoScored?'s September Premier League Team of the Month is a defensive one.
Nick Pope is joined by former teammate Sean Longstaff in the Team of the Month
WhoScored?'s Team of the Month is picked based on the average ratings given to each player from every game, which in turn are based on stats rather than a gut feeling from any one pundit.
After making several top-class saves to keep Newcastle alive in games, Nick Pope has been picked for the WhoScored? Team.
Former Magpie Sean Longstaff has also made it into the team, positioned in front of a player we've never heard of from a team we aren't familiar with in the Premier League lately.
Nick Pope has been a safe pair of hands lately
Hugo Ekitike has also got himself a place in the team, which seems to be reflecting Arne Slot's selections at Liverpool, as the Frenchman has seemingly nailed down his place in the starting lineup ahead of a certain Alexander Isak.
Now that things are starting to click for Newcastle in an attacking sense, we hope that we'll see more Newcastle players popping up in these teams throughout the season.
We'll take having Nick Pope representing us after the results we've endured in September. It shows that we were still doing something right. Sort of. I mean, if we were playing better he wouldn't have as many saves to make to get himself into this position, but at least we have safe hands there.
