It is becoming more and more likely that Callum Wilson will leave Newcastle United this summer as his contract expires.

There were hints that the 33-year-old striker could play his way into a contract extension at the end of this season if he was able to remain fit, but as time ticks on there is no sign of talks beginning.

Wilson has spent a lot of time at Newcastle sidelined through various injuries, and while that's not exactly his fault, it's a big enough reason for the club to let him leave this summer, along with his age.

Of course, that leaves Newcastle with the difficult task of replacing one of the most prolific strikers the Magpies have had in years, which won't be easy.

Liam Delap could be the answer to Newcastle's striker conundrum

Liam Delap could be the ideal replacement for Callum Wilson in terms of age and quality

Will Osula was brought in during the summer but he hasn't shown any signs that he is ready to step up to be Alexander Isak's understudy.

Being the understudy of Isak is what could make it hard for Newcastle to sign a top-class striker this summer as any striker of that level of quality is going to want to be a regular starter.

However, The Boot Room believes Newcastle are set to compete for the signature of a young striker who has Premier League experience and could be ready to fill the void.

It will not be an easy ride for Newcastle should they choose to pursue Liam Delap

Liam Delap has impressed this season at Ipswich and it seems that regardless of whether they can pull off a miracle and stay in the Premier League, Delap is likely to move on this summer with the Tractor Boys looking for £40 million for his services, with 20% of that set to go to Manchester City as part of a sell-on clause.

Newcastle will have to compete with several top Premier League sides to bring the striker who has 10 Premier League goals this season to St James' Park.

The 22-year-old is being chased by Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United as well as Newcastle.

Delap has hinted that he's open to a move to another Premier League club this summer, so it's highly likely that he will be on the move, it's just a case of where.
