Newcastle United remain determined to sign another striker today with several options still available
Newcastle United have agreed to sell Alexander Isak to Liverpool for around £125 million, which is £25 million shy of the club's initial valuation.
On top of that £25 million deficit is the fact that Newcastle haven't signed two strikers. Both of these things were reportedly the conditions of sale that would allow Isak to leave for Anfield this summer.
However, the club has now taken the decision to grant Isak his move, which, in truth, is probably for the best, as his toxicity had the potential to destroy the club.
It's being reported in the iPaper that Isak will not be paid a loyalty bonus despite not handing in a transfer request. That only seems right considering he avoided fines all summer for acting like a brat, and the irony of him being paid a "loyalty" bonus after his action this summer would have just broken us.
Newcastle remain determined to do more business today
Newcastle must now graft like beavers to bring in a second striker before tonight's transfer deadline at 7pm.
Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson remains an option after his move to Bayern Munich fell through over the weekend, although, as reported by the iPaper, Newcastle's recruitment team are split on whether he's the right player for the Magpies.
A loan with an option to buy could be the way forward, with Chelsea still keen to move Jackson on before the deadline. Now that we know Jackson wouldn't be the "Isak replacement" as such, his coming in alongside Nick Woltemade is actually pretty exciting, despite all of our reluctance to see him join this summer. As Isak's replacement, he's not up to snuff, but as a Callum Wilson replacement, he'd be an excellent signing.
Newcastle's recruitment team are scouring Europe for strikers
With Brentford and Wolves holding firm on not letting Yoane Wissa and Jorgen Strand Larsen leave, Newcastle are scouring Europe for alternatives.
It's likely to be a busy day behind the scenes at Newcastle, but as for how much of it we'll get to know about, we're not sure.
It's feeling like one of those rare occasions that Transfer Deadline Day on Sky Sports News is going to be worth watching for Newcastle fans.
