Miguel Almiron is edging ever closer to his Newcastle United exit with a £10 million move back to Atlanta United mooted.

This will leave Newcastle with just Jacob Murphy as a recognised right-winger in the squad, although there are players in the side who can fill the position if needs be.

Eddie Howe has experimented with different players on the right this season before Murphy found his form, but if anything were to happen to Murphy, Howe would have to call on those players he tried earlier in the season.

It could have been a different story, though, as the Daily Mail are now claiming that Newcastle have been offered the chance to sign Real Sociedad and Japan winger Takefusa Kubo.

Takefusa Kubo has a £50m release clause in his Real Sociedad contract

The report does say that Newcastle certainly have an interest in the winger who was a former teammate of Alexander Isak before he moved to Tyneside.

However, the offer was really more of an approach to make Newcastle aware of Kubo's £50 million release clause and that he would be interested in the move.

Unfortunately, Newcastle are standing by their decision to not spend big this month with an eye on recruiting in the summer when they know which (if any) European competition they'll be playing in.

Newcastle are holding on until summer to recruit

Kubo has four goals in 19 La Liga appearances for Sociedad this season and can play all across the front three, but at £50 million it was never likely to happen this month.

Even if Almiron does move to Atlanta this month as expected, the feeling is Newcastle will not sign a replacement until the summer.

It's a bold move, for sure, but it's about time we started taking chances like this rather than holding on to players who simply aren't up to snuff.
