We know that by now, you're probably sick of reading about Alexander Isak leaving Newcastle United. We know we are.
Newcastle's star striker bagged 23 Premier League goals last season and, as a result, has been attracting interest from elsewhere, namely Liverpool and Arsenal.
While the Magpies have made it abundantly clear on several occasions that the 25-year-old is not for sale and the player himself has shown no hints of eyeing a move elsewhere, the rumours persist.
Now, with the new PSR reporting cycle set to start next week, Newcastle will be looking to reopen contract negotiations with Isak in order to bring his wages more in line with the top earners at the club.
With all of the talk surrounding Isak and his phenomenal contribution to the team since he joined for £63 million in 2022, the club plans to make him the highest earner in their history.
Bruno Guimaraes currently holds that honour with his £160,000-a-week (via Capology), but according to The Times, Isak will become the new top earner when/if a new deal is agreed.
Unfortunately, Newcastle still can't offer the kind of wages he could receive elsewhere, so the Magpies will be hoping for a bit of loyalty from the Swede.
Newcastle, having qualified for the Champions League as well as lifting a trophy last season, will be hoping that will be enough to convince Isak that he can achieve his goals at the club.
Even if talks collapse, however, Isak is still under contract until 2028, so there's no pressure at all for the Magpies to sell.
Talks are expected to resume next month, so we'll see how it all pans out soon. Hopefully, he signs a new deal, there's no release clause, and all of these rumours can go away.
