Signing a right-winger is a top priority for Newcastle United this summer with just Jacob Murphy fully adept at that position in the current squad.

Jacob Murphy has been a revelation for Newcastle this season, but he can't be relied upon to play 38+ games and perform at the highest possible level for an entire season.

Bryan Mbeumo is thought to be Newcastle's first choice for the position this summer, but the Magpies have their feelers out elsewhere too, in case the Mbeumo deal can't be done.

Newcastle have been linked before to West Ham United's Mohammed Kudus, and now Football Insider are claiming that the Magpies could be about to step up their interest in the Ghana international.

Mohammed Kudus is being looked at again by Newcastle

Newcastle are weighing up a move for Mohammed Kudus

Kudus has had a superb season despite West Ham's struggles, and the 24-year-old has racked up five goals and four assists in 35 appearances for the Hammers.

Due to West Ham's injury issues, Kudus has found himself playing in a variety of positions, although he is most comfortable down the right wing.

Football Insider claims that West Ham could let Kudus go this summer in order to bolster their own coffers and to avoid any potential sanctions for breaching PSR.

Mohammed Kudus isn't a bad backup option if we can't get Bryan Mbeumo

Mohammed Kudus cost West Ham £38 million two years ago, and would likely fetch a pretty penny this summer, although it's likely to be less than the £60 million being quoted for Newcastle to take Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.

For us, Mbeumo remains the priority, but we could certainly do a lot worse than Kudus if that deal fails to come off, especially if Newcastle are able to exploit the Hammers' PSR concerns.

The PSR side of things makes this a deal that will be best off being done in the mini transfer window that starts on Sunday, which does put pressure on the Mbeumo deal. We'll have to see how it all plays out.
