Newcastle United one of six Premier League clubs reportedly interested in signing 20-year-old Lyon star this summer

As Newcastle United plan their next first moves in the transfer market, more players names are being added into the rumour mill.

Newcastle have already missed out on several players if reports are to be believed. Liam Delap, Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Joan Garcia have all moved, or are moving to other clubs - however, we can't be certain of just how strong our interest was in any of those players. Still, as far as fans are concerned, we have missed out on these signings already.

Now, with Chelsea looking to steal Joao Pedro from under our noses and Liverpool looking to do the same with Marc Guehi, it's certainly a frustrating time to be a Magpie.

However, as names drop off the list, new ones are constantly being added and ESPN have now reported that Newcastle are looking at Lyon winger Malick Fofana.

Malick Fofana managed 11 goals and six assists for Lyon in 41 outings in all competitions and as such has caught the eye of several clubs.

Indeed, ESPN has named Newcastle among six Premier League clubs keen on the 20-year-old Belgian.

Tottenham, Everton, Fulham and Brighton are all keen on Fofana, and I know that only makes five, but do we even have to name the sixth? Of course it's Chelsea.

We don't see a move for Mallick Fofana coming off for Newcastle

Fofana is a right-footed winger who prefers to play on the left, however, which makes a move to Newcastle highly unlilkely.

The Magpies are all set down the left flank with Harvey Barnes and Anthony Gordon battling for that starting place.

Malick Fofana can play on the right, but his preference is on the left, which makes him far too similar to Gordon and Barnes who both can play on the right but seem to really struggle.

We don't expect this one to go anywhere with such fierce competition as other clubs can offer him a much clearer path to the first-team.
