After spending way too much time in pursuit if Marc Guehi over the summer Newcastle United are still looking for a right-sided centre-back, but will be looking for a cheaper alternative.
The Magpies thought they had found just that recently when linked to Sevilla's French defender, Loic Bade which reports saying that Newcastle and Liverpool were looking at offering the former Nottingham Forest man a route back to the Premier League.
Initially, reports were suggesting that a deal of around €25 million £20.8 million) would be enough to get the job done to sign the 24-year-old.
However, a new report from sources closer to Sevilla has suggested that any interested party will have to activate Bade's release clause.
Deemed a future world-class star and a 'complete' player by Football Talent Scout - Jacek Kulig on X, Loic Bade has a €60 million (£50 million) release clause and Estadio Deportivo are now saying that Sevilla will demand that it must be activated for them to consider letting Bade go.
According to Estadio Deportivo, Sevilla are aware of reports linking Liverpool and Newcastle to Bade but claim that they've heard nothing from either club and remain calm about the situation.
Bade has played in nine of Sevilla's 12 games this season and has been impressive throughout.
Bade never made a Premier League appearance during his brief spell at Nottingham Forest and it's believed the Frenchman feels he has unfinished business in England.
If the earlier reports are more accurate in that Sevilla would listen to offers around the £20m-£25 million mark, then Bade could be a good one for Newcastle to look at, but I don't see us forking out £50 million for a defender with no actual Premier League experience.
But then, we didn't think we'd go as high as £70 million for Marc Guehi, so what do we know?
