It seems that someone in the media is desperate to see Newcastle United sign a player from Manchester City in January.

Having recently been linked with City's Oscar Bobb, Newcastle are now being linked with another Man City player.

A recent report suggested that Manchester City had offered Oscar Bobb to Newcastle as a potential January signing, but regardless of their form this season, wingers aren't exactly a position that Newcastle are lacking, so it's unlikely they'd have taken up City on their offer.

There's an expectation that PIF will authorise some spending in January, with a creative midfielder and a left-sided full-back the most likely positions to be filled if any.

Nathan Ake to Newcastle?

Newcastle are reportedly keen on Manchester City's Nathan Ake

However, talkSPORT are reporting that Newcastle are one of a few clubs keeping an eye on Nathan Ake's situation at Manchester City amid an injury crisis at the back.

Ake turns 31 in February and has rarely featured for Pep Guardiola's side this season, so it's understandable that he's assessing his future.

The Dutch defender has already rejected a loan move to West Ham, saying he doesn't want to be involved in a relegation battle.

Should Newcastle sign Nathan Ake?

We don't see Nathan Ake as being the answer we're looking for in January

Newcastle, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace are all thought to be monitoring the situation now, but it doesn't make a great deal of sense to us.

If it was just a loan for the remainder of the season, then maybe we could see the point given Sven Botman's injury issues and how long it may take Dan Burn to fully recover from his fractured rib and punctured lung.

We don't see any real point in signing a 31-year-old defender on a permanent basis, though, and Eddie Howe has said they won't be signing players to fix short-term problems.
