Newcastle United are looking to bolster their attacking line-up in the January transfer window.
Alexander Isak is The Magpies key front man, especially this season as Callum Wilson fights for fitness and William Osula looks to gain more experience alongside his peers.
In Saturday's disappointing 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace, Isak was forced off due to an issue with his hip. Although not too severe according to Toon boss Eddie Howe it is an issue that has stayed with him since last season. He was forced off with a similar issue in the defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.
That leaves Wilson and Osula, two players who aren't ready for starts for different reasons to fill in the gaps before you are forced to look at playing people out of position or looking at the youth setup.
For Howe and sporting director Paul Mitchell, the time is now to look towards the transfer market.
Mitchell is keen to put the disastrous summer transfer window behind him and make amends with Toon fans by signing a top quality player for the first team.
Names like Bryan Mbuemo and Antoine Semenyo are players reported to be on Newcastle's radar. Now, Caught Offside have reported that The Magpies are interested in signing Brighton forward Evan Ferguson.
Ferguson has only found the net once in his eight Premier League appearances this season and has failed to play consistent football under new manager Fabian Hurzeler.
Toon fans should remember him well however, the 20-year-old scored a hat-trick against Newcastle in the 3-1 defeat at the AMEX last season. A day football fans would've believed a star was born.
Ferguson scored six goals in 26 Premier League appearances last season and is valued at £60million. The report also suggests that Ferguson could be available on loan in January with West Ham and Rangers interested.
Callum Wilson has only just returned to the Newcastle squad following an extended absence with a back injury.
The 32-year-old is entering the final six months of his contract. A number of clubs are reportedly interested.
Fulham, Brentford, Crystal Palace and Southampton are all keen on bringing Wilson in. It is unsure whether they will be willing to pay a fee or will wait until this summer before making a proposal.
Longstanding players Miguel Almiron and Kieran Trippier have also been linked with exits from Newcastle in January after falling out of the first team picture.
