Newcastle United midfielder withdraws from international duty through injury - worrying for Eddie Howe
Newcastle United have suffered an injury setback as a player on international duty has withdrawn with a calf injury.
The Magpies' midfield was, at least on Sunday, still missing Jacob Ramsey, who had been tipped to return against Nottingham Forest, and now it looks as though they'll be without Lewis Miley for a while.
The Chronicle has reported that Miley has withdrawn from the England Under-21 camp with a 'minor calf injury'.
This puts Miley out along with Yoane Wissa, Tino Livramento, Lewis Hall and potentially Jacob Ramsey.
Lewis Miley has returned to Newcastle after leaving the England U21 camp
We don't know what the England camp is doing to our young prodigy, but Miley missed a huge chunk of last season with a back injury that he also picked up on international duty.
Thankfully, Miley's withdrawal is thought to be more precautionary than anything else.
He has returned to Newcastle with the hopes that he will recover in time to be available for Eddie Howe to select when the Toon travel to Brighton a week on Saturday.
Lewis Miley is unfortunate to be behind the best midfield trio in the Premier League
Miley's first-team chances are limited for Newcastle due to Eddie Howe having arguably the best midfield trio in the Premier League.
However, the Consett-born teenager has managed seven appearances this season, including two starts when Howe tweaked the lineup for certain games.
We're glad this doesn't look like it's going to be an injury that's going to keep Miley out of contention for long, if at all. He may be behind Jacob Ramsey in the pecking order but we'd definitely put him ahead of Joe Willock right now.
