Newcastle United make enquiry over Premier League winger as club eyes it's first major summer signing

Eddie Howe is likely just as frustrated as we are as Newcastle United fans with the club's slow approach to transfers. In fact, probably more so given that he's privy to a lot more information than we are.

As fans we just have the word of journalists when it comes to who the club are looking to sign, Eddie Howe knows who the club are looking to sign and whether or not any genuine moves have been made. That's probably worse than us just guessing or believing what someone else has said.

However, this evening, The Daily Mail have reported on some transfer movement at least, albeit only in the form of an enquiry.

No bid has been made, talks haven't really begun, but we finally have movement on a potential first-team signing.

Newcastle have made a move in a bid to land Anthony Elanga

As we said earlier today, Newcastle still retain a strong interest in Anthony Elanga after their £50 million last-ditch bid to buy the Sweden star failed on deadline day last year.

However, The Mail now reports that Newcastle have once again made an enquiry about the availability of the 23-year-old Nottingham Forest star.

Newcastle missed out on their priority right winger target in Bryan Mbeumo but they have long admired Elanga and likely wouldn't see him as much of a downgrade on the Cameroonian.

Anthony Elanga could cost over £50 million

It's expected that Nottingham Forest will want more than £50 million for Elanga who still has three years on his contract at the City Ground, but if a deal can be done, we'll be pretty happy.

Elanga has shown moments of sheer brilliance at Forest and Dan Burn won't need reminding of Elanga's blistering pace having been obliterated by him many times in the 2023/24 season while covering at left-back.

Anthony Elanga is still young but has plenty of Premier League experience. Under Eddie Howe and alongside his fellow countryman Alexander Isak, he could become something special at Newcastle ... IF they can get a deal done.
