Newcastle United are set to have a big shakeup in the goalkeeping department this summer, with at least one new 'keeper expected to be inbound.

The Magpies currently have five first-team goalkeepers on their books, but that number is expected to be trimmed down this summer. While there will be exits, there's also expected to be arrivals too.

Burnley's James Trafford has been heavily linked with a move to the Toon with reports prematurely suggesting that the deal was already done.

However, the fact that other names are still floating around certainly backs up the claim that those stories jumped the gun.

Joan Garcia: The latest goalkeeper linked to Newcastle

Newcastle could look to take advantage of Espanyol's potential relegation

Recently, reports have been suggesting that Newcastle are one of several clubs eyeing Espanyol's Joan Garcia, who has a €25 million (£21 million) release clause.

Spanish outlet, Sport, has claimed that clubs are waiting to see what happens this weekend as a defeat to Las Palmas would seal Espanyol's relegation, which is expected to prompt clubs to go in for Garcia with bids of just €15 million (£12.6 million), saving themselves almost £8 million.

Sport Witness has described Garcia as having had a 'spectacular' season despite Espanyol's struggles.

How many goalkeepers do Newcastle actually need?

The 24-year-old is wanted by several Premier League clubs, and even Real Madrid are keen.

Garcia has kept seven clean sheets in 37 games for Espanyol in La Liga this season, conceding 51 goals while playing every minute for the side.

We aren't sure just how genuine this interest is, but Newcastle have been linked to Garcia by a few different outlets now, so there could be some truth to the rumours.

We still expect that James Trafford will be the main goalkeeper we sign this summer, or perhaps Caoimhin Kelleher, but who knows how many 'keepers we'll be looking to sign. It depends on how many leave.
