Newcastle United just broke their transfer record this summer by signing Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart for a reported £69 million.

The previous record was, of course, the £63 million paid for Alexander Isak, who left Newcastle for Liverpool this summer for £125 million.

That fee should keep Newcastle away from the clutches of PSR for a while now, with the Magpies having made sure they still had money to spend in January if needs be.

Injuries and progression in the Champions League will be two factors that determine whether Newcastle dip into that pot in the winter window.

Dani Olmo is on Newcastle's wishlist for next summer - according to report from Spain

A report from Spain has linked Newcastle with a move for Barcelona star Dani Olmo

Alternatively, if no additions are required, they can carry that money over into the summer to add to the new budget, which is where Spanish outliet E-Noticies believes the Magpies will once again shatter their club record transfer fee.

Barcelona's Dani Olmo is 'almost certain' to leave the Nou Camp in the summer, and Newcastle are said to be ready to pay €90 million (£79 million) to bring the 27-year-old to St James' Park.

Olmo is keen to leave Barcelona as he's not being given the chances he feels he deserves by Hansi Flick, who tends to use the Spanish winger as a substitute rather than a starter.

Dani Olmo would be a huge statement signing for Newcastle

Newcastle signing Dani Olmo would be incredible, but we're not sure we'd be forking out £79 million on a left winger without letting one of either Harvey Barnes or Anthony Gordon go first.

We're not ruling anything out at this early stage, but this does feel like a fanciful transfer story rather than anything rooted in fact right now.

Olmo will be 28 by the time the summer window opens, too. We've already just spent £55 million on a 28-year-old, and everyone insists that was too much. Granted, Olmo is a different calibre to Yoane Wissa, but it still feels very steep for a player heading into the twilight of their career.
