Newcastle United linked with record transfer as Eddie Howe bemoans PSR woes in winter transfer window
As time ticks by, we're more and more convinced that we will not see any new additions to Newcastle United's first team this month.
As quickly as transfer rumours have appeared, they've disappeared this month. Nothing seems to have any longevity.
It doesn't help when Eddie Howe says in his press conferences over and over again how much PSR is hamstrung the club, with the boss reiterating that point again today.
"I say time and time again, PSR is controlling what we are able to do. I think you will understand that it gives us limited room to manoeuvre, to try and bring in a player that is good enough to elevate the group and have a long-term future at the football club.
"With the finances we have available, it is very, very difficult. So let’s see what happens in the last few days, I mean anything can happen from this point onwards, but certainly we would try not to panic and try to make the right decisions.”
Newcastle are reportedly looking towards the Bundesliga for transfers again
There's a strong feeling that Newcastle are trying their best not to get involved in the transfer market this month in order to go into the summer with as big a war-chest as possible.
A new report from Sportsboom has now suggested that Newcastle could be set to break their transfer record once again this summer by bringing in another player from the Bundesliga.
Newcastle, along with Aston Villa and Tottenham, are eyeing Eintracht Frankfurt's Can Uzun, who has a reported price tag of €80 million (£69 million).
Would Newcastle break their transfer record again this summer?
The 20-year-old attacking midfielder has been turning heads in Germany and for the Turkish national team, racking up six goals and three assists in 13 appearances in the Bundesliga this season.
Newcastle could certainly do with some more creativity in the middle of the park, but whether they'd be ready to break their transfer record again after the £65m + £4m acquisition of Nick Woltemade, we're not so sure.
Obviously, a transfer of that magnitude would have to wait until the summer, it feels like we daren't spend on a McDonald's breakfast at the minute without panicking about PSR.
