Newcastle United are expected to dip into the transfer market at some point this month, with injuries being a huge concern for Eddie Howe.

Although, quite when they will do that is anyone's guess. It definitely feels like they are trying their hardest to avoid spending any money this month.

That's not stopping the rumour mill, though, and neither is the fact that Eddie Howe said on Sunday that they don't have the financial capacity to add an attacking option in this window after a stale display up top at Wolves.

It's thought that any moves Newcastle make this month will be to reinforce the defence, but that hasn't stopped a rumour running wild today that Newcastle are keen on Vasco da Gama winger Rayan.

Newcastle have no interest in Rayan

Eddie Howe shuts down rumours linking Newcastle with young Brazilian winger

Rumours coming out of Brazil were suggesting that the 19-year-old had pulled out of training amid interest from the Premier League which led to Eddie Howe being asked about Newcastle's interest today.

Speaking to the media ahead of tomorrow's clash with PSV, Eddie Howe bluntly shut down the rumours linking the Toon with Rayan.

"There's no truth in that."

Rayan may still end up in the Premier League this month

Bournemouth have been heavily linked with a move for Rayan, so he may still be heading to the Premier League, but it won't be with Newcastle.

The transfer window closes at 7pm on Monday 2nd February which gives Newcastle under two weeks to identify and sign someone. Anyone.

With Dan Burn now back in training, though, we have a horrible feeling the Newcastle chequebook is going to remain locked in the desk drawer until the summer.
