Callum Wilson confirmed his departure from Newcastle United earlier this week, leaving Eddie Howe even more desperate to find another centre-forward ahead of next season.

While the Magpies have been constantly linked with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, there have, thankfully, been reports of other targets too, although we aren't so convinced by those either.

It was reported this week that Brentford's Yoane Wissa and Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins have been discussed by Newcastle's transfer chiefs.

Wissa turns 29 in September and only has one year left on his contract at Brentford, so you'd expect that a deal wouldn't be so pricey for the DR Congo international despite bagging an impressive 20 goals last season.

Spurs have been told how much it will cost to take Yoane Wissa from Brentford - Newcastle need to walk away

That's not the case at all, however, as Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly been told what it would take to land Wissa this summer.

The Standard has reported that Spurs were told to cough up £50 million for the striker, which is, quite frankly, insane.

If people think that Newcastle has overpaid for a 23-year-old winger with an immense work rate, stellar fitness record, and blinding pace at £55 million, then in what world does this fee make sense?

Brentford are bold, we'll give them that

Given that Brentford haven't yet sold Bryan Mbeumo, as they try to squeeze more money out of Manchester United, they're not exactly flush with cash. We could understand it if that Mbeumo deal had gone through and they were doing this to keep Wissa at the club rather than losing their two most productive forwards, but honestly, £50 million with a year left on his contract is madness.

We absolutely feel Wissa would be a good addition for Eddie Howe, but we'd be loath to pay half of what they're asking for a player who will spend most of their time on the bench.

Newcastle shouldn't even entertain this idea. As for Ollie Watkins, we feel it could be a similar story with Villa setting a high price. We're far better looking to the continent for a striker.
