Newcastle United keeping tabs on 18-year-old Premier League star with view to January bid
Newcastle United are enjoying a bit of freedom in the transfer market these days, having successfully staved off PSR sanctions by limiting their spending for three transfer windows in a row.
This summer, Newcastle were able to spend again, and the fact that they managed to bring in £130 million for Alexander Isak will mean that if the Magpies feel the need to add more players in January, they have the capacity to do so.
With the addition of having a sporting director in place for the winter window, we could see some deals being done in January.
Indeed, Newcastle have been keeping tabs on a few players so they are ready when the time comes.
Lee Ryder believes Newcastle are monitoring Fulham's Josh King
According to The Chronicle, one of those players is 18-year-old Josh King from Fulham.
King made eight Premier League appearances for Fulham last season and has played in each of their seven games this season as Marco Silva seems to rate the midfielder very highly.
Newcastle are also watching on with interest how the youngster deals with regular playing time in the top flight after breaking into the Fulham first team.
Would Josh King leave regular first-team action to ride the bench at Newcastle?
Newcastle are expected to continue to look for young players to recruit and develop under Wilson, and finding a young, promising player with Premier League experience already will certainly tick a lot of boxes.
Convincing King to ditch regular first-team action at Fulham to move to the North East and sit on the bench behind a strong midfield may prove to be very tricky, however.
Especially if there is any truth to Newcastle wanting to bring Elliot Anderson home, who, let's be honest, would have the same problem in terms of playing time.
