After beating the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham to the signing of youngster Josh Kenchington, Newcastle United will be hoping to see off Premier League competition for another highly-rated young player.

Leicester City's teenage wonderkid, Jeremy Monga, is due to sign his first professional contract with the Foxes next summer, but Graeme Bailey suggests that Newcastle United are amongst a host of top-tier sides eyeing a January swoop for the 16-year-old left winger.

Jeremy Monga actually made his Premier League debut as a substitute against Newcastle last season in the Magpies 3-0 win at the King Power Stadium.

Despite coming into a struggling side, Monga caught the eye while becoming the second youngest player behind Ethan Nwanieri to play in the Premier League. Monga had to play in a sponsor-less shirt to comply with the UK laws on gambling advertising.

Newcastle aren't favourites, but are thought to be in the picture for Jeremy Monga

It seems he did enough to catch the eye of Newcastle staffers, with Graeme Bailey telling Geordie Boot Boys that the Magpies are keeping a close eye on him.

“Jeremy Monga is a player on the radar of most of the big Premier League clubs. Newcastle, as we know, are not averse to these youngsters.

“He’s a player they can grab now before he turns 17. Newcastle are one of the clubs that like him, but that’s no surprise.

“He’s a generational player and a lot of clubs like him. Newcastle have made it known to his camp that they would be interested in signing him. I wouldn’t make Newcastle favourites for him, but they are certainly in the picture.”

Newcastle want all the young talent to come to St James' Park

Newcastle are still in the business of trying to scoop up young talent to develop at the club, and Monga would definitely fit that mould.

We shouldn't be too worried right now that Bailey doesn't list us as favourites, but if we're in the mix, we have a chance.

Of course, if one of the other interested clubs is Chelsea, we might as well walk away now, as their hypnosis machine that convinces players to sign for the Stamford Bridge outfit will make sure Monga signs for them.
