Anthony Gordon has now gone 19 Premier League games for Newcastle United without registering an assist or a goal.

The England winger's last Premier League goal came in January against Wolverhampton Wanderers, and his last assist came against Southampton just 10 days later.

Has has made 19 Premier League appearances since then without making a direct contribution to the scoreline.

Thankfully, he is doing the business in the Champions League with four goals and an assist, sitting behind only Kylian Mbappe in the goal contributions charts.

Newcastle United insiders have faith in Anthony Gordon

Gordon even scored for England against Latvia during the last international break; it's just not clicking where it really matters for Newcastle.

Despite this, Craig Hope has written in the Daily Mail that there's no panic from the player or, indeed, anyone inside Newcastle with a slight allowance being made for the hip injury the 24-year-old is carrying, which played a part in why Eddie Howe took him off at half-time on Sunday.

Anthony Gordon linked up very well with Alexander Isak, and now with the Swede gone, he's having to adapt his game to work up a new understanding with Nick Woltemade, and we absolutely understand that, but Jacob Murphy seems to have managed pretty quickly.

Anthony Gordon has the talent to be world-class, but does he have the mentality?

We absolutely have faith in Gordon's ability. We've seen it many times, the lad is a superstar on his day.

What we aren't convinced about is his attitude. It's like he believes his own hype and only performs on the biggest stage - albeit against sides that are arguably worse than the calibre of Premier League opposition.

Whatever the reality is, we aren't as calm about it as the staff at the club, and we hope that someone, even if he does it himself, gives him a kick up the rear and wakes him up.
