Brighton and Hove Albion forward Joao Pedro has emerged as a top target for Newcastle United, who want to finally get their man after missing out in 2022.

João Pedro's Premier League experience and versatility make him an ideal summer signing for Eddie Howe, although the reported £60 million price tag could prove to be an issue.

However, that might not be the only problem Newcastle could come up against if João Pedro's teammate, Igor Julio, is to be believed.

Igor was speaking to Trivela about his close friend and suggested that he's earned a move to a big club.

Joao Pedro could favour a move to London

João Pedro may favour a move elsewhere, giving Newcastle something to ponder

While Newcastle can certainly be counted as that, Igor dropped a bombshell that could prove to be a problem for the Toon, and it's that age-old thing players always talk about.

“João Pedro had already told Brighton some time ago that his desire was to leave, look for new things and take the next step.

“It seems it will be difficult and complicated for him to stay here, we have to be honest, the club already knows that he said in contact with them via a video call.

"I'm very happy for him. He deserved it. He's been here in England for five years and he hasn't played for a big team yet. It's his moment, his time, so he can make the best decision and be happy wherever he goes

“I told him that he has to think about what he wants from his career. In my opinion, if I were going to a Big Six team, I would go to a team that competes in the Premier League, plays in the Champions League and is always in a position to win.

“I would go to a Liverpool team and I think he would fit in perfectly at Liverpool. It's because I've always dreamed of playing for Liverpool and I would go there.

"He always told me that he really wants to live in London, so I think he will prioritise what comes from there first."

What's so good about London? London doesn't have the Tyne Bridge

The good old "players will prefer to be on the London" line may actually hold some truth for once.

It doesn't count Newcastle out entirely, but should a London club come knocking, and let's be honest, we know which one is likely to do so, then we might struggle to convince João Pedro to head north.

We'll never understand the appeal of London, but that's because we know how awesome Newcastle is.
