Newcastle United booked their spot in the draw for the Carabao Cup semi-final with a 3-1 win over Brentford on Wednesday night.

A two-legged tie awaits them in January before we can start dreaming of Wembley again.

The draw took place after the last quarter-final game was finished tonight which saw Tottenham just about hang on to see off Manchester United after threatening to throw away a three-goal lead.

Spurs joined Newcastle, Arsenal and Liverpool in the draw for the semi-final.

Our only hope was that Newcastle United avoided Liverpool

As is always the case, we were made to wait for the draw but we eventually learned what challenge faced Newcastle United next.

We've no doubt that WhatsApp groups were abuzz tonight with everyone giving their opinions on who they'd like to get in the semi and ultimately the final.

For us the goal was to avoid Liverpool if at all possible given their record against us.

Newcastle will play Arsenal over two legs in the Carabao Cup semi-final

The first ball out of the bowl was Arsenal swiftly followed by Newcastle meaning Arsenal will kick off the two-legged tie at home with the first leg set to be played the week commencing January 6th and the second leg during the week commencing February 3rd.

Tottenham were drawn home in the first leg against Liverpool.

We avoided Liverpool, which is what we wanted, and we know we can beat Arsenal at home, if we can get a decent result at the Emirates we could definitely be heading to Wembley again.
