Newcastle United gaffer Eddie Howe picks up Manager of the Month nomination for December

Newcastle United have two players nominated for Player of the Month for December and to go along with them, Eddie Howe is up for Manager of the Month too.

After a very iffy start to the season which saw Newcastle scrape results after playing poorly and dropping points when they played well, December was when everything started to click.

Newcastle started December off well, holding Liverpool to a 3-3 draw in what was a match reminiscent of the Kevin Keegan days. A blip against Brentford followed that as the Bees, who were undefeated at home, kept that run going with a 4-2 win over the Magpies.

After that, though, Newcastle came to life and have been undefeated ever since, not even conceding a single Premier League since the Brentford defeat. Indeed the only other time Newcastle did concede in December was during the win against Brentford in the Carabao Cup.

Howe took Newcastle United from 10th to fifth in December with four wins and a draw from six matches, including a draw with leaders Liverpool and victories over Aston Villa and Manchester United. Newcastle averaged three goals per game across the month and ended December with four successive clean sheets, scoring 13 unanswered goals. Like Nuno, Howe is in contention to win the award for a sixth time in his career.

Eddie Howe faces competition from Nuno Espirito Santo whose Nottingham Forest side are flying this season, Andoni Iraola of Bournemouth who are having a fantastic season, and Arne Slot whose Liverpool side are dominating the Premier League.

Can we get a Newcastle clean sweep?

We know that Arne Slot is likely to get the award because he's the Liverpool boss and that's how these things go, but we're sure our fans will make sure that Eddie Howe wins the public vote at least.

It would be amazing, though, if Newcastle could hit a clean sweep with Player of the Month, Manager of the Month and Goal of the Month.
