Newcastle United eyeing 22-year-old Premier League winner in £50m swoop this summer

Newcastle United need to bolster their squad ahead of a challenging season back in Europe (hopefully the Champions League).

Regardless of Newcastle's final league position this season, the Magpies will play European football next season thanks to their Carabao Cup victory, but of course, the aim is make it back into the Champions League.

Should Newcastle achieve that goal, then it's believed their summer transfer budget will be fairly decent, decreasing as we move down the UEFA competitions.

The bigger the budget, the better the players we can pursue, or at the very least, the more players we can pursue.

Newcastle are keen on Liverpool star Harvey Elliott

Newcastle have four priority positions to fill this summer: goalkeeper, centre-back, right-wing and centre forward.

Beyond that, however, there will be a few 'nice to have' players to come in, one of which would be an attacking midfielder, which is where Newcastle are now casting their eye, according to TeamTalk.

Liverpool's Harvey Elliott is believed to be the player Newcastle want for that position, with the 22-year-old having fallen down the pecking order under Arne Slot.

Elliott has struggled for minutes this season, but that's not so much a reflection of his talent more of the strength of the options ahead of him.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly keen on Elliott too and are weighing up launching a £50 million bid to replace Matheus Cunha, according to GiveMeSport.

And therein lies the problem for Newcastle. An attacking midfielder isn't that high of a priority, so by the time we've signed the players we need, we doubt we'll have anywhere near £50 million left over for a player we merely want.
