Newcastle United eyeing 22-year-old Champions League winner for £70m according to new report
Eddie Howe can boast of having one of the best midfield trios in the Premier League at Newcastle United.
The midfield, led by team captain Bruno Guimaraes, is also made up of Italy international Sandro Tonali, who has really adapted to life in England lately, and in-and-out Brazil international Joelinton.
Each one plays in a slightly different way, which complements the other, producing a fearsome force in the centre of the park for the Magpies.
Newcastle added Jacob Ramsey as an option in the summer, while popular academy product Lewis Miley and former Arsenal man Joe Willock make up the rest of the backup options.
Newcastle could do with another midfielder to add quality to the squad
The decline of Joe Willock has been massive since the midfielder picked up some pretty bad injuries, but Eddie Howe persists with him over Miley, which baffles us and many other supporters. Ramsey looked good in the brief appearance we got before he picked up an injury, but they are a common occurrence for the former Aston Villa star, so his availability could be limited.
Give Me Sport is now reporting that Newcastle are one of several clubs looking to bring Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga to the Premier League.
The 22-year-old would represent a huge coup for Newcastle and could even oust Joelinton from that midfield trio, such is his talent.
We can dream, can't we?
The report suggests Camavinga would set Newcastle back around £70 million, which, for a player of his age and talent, is a snip.
Unfortunately, Give Me Sport's report is rather vague on details, and they start it off with 'according to reports' without citing a source, which is a massive red flag. Our guess is that they picked this up from Fichajes and didn't want to admit where they got it from to try and make it seem more legit.
It seems like quite a flight of fancy for us to be linked with Camavinga for just £70 million, but it's a nice dream, and it adds a new name to the watchlist if nothing else. It's been a slow news day, so we're glad of something new to report on at least.
