Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles could be on the move in January

The defender is currently out of action following an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in the thrilling 4-3 win against West Ham in March.

He is due to return to action in the next month following the extended spell out. The 31-year-old was enjoying a good run in the squad before that.

Lascelles is one of many players nearing the end of their contract this summer and with his injury it may be time for him to move on.

Now, a club in the Premier League seem to have offered him a lifeline.

Wolverhampton Wanderers eyeing a move for Jamaal Lascelles

Wolves have struggled defensively this season conceding 32 goals in the Premier League, the leakiest defence in the league this season.

It's clear that they are in need of a new central defender following the exit of Max Kilman who was part of the glue that kept their defence together.

Lascelles has spent the last decade with The Magpies signing under manager Alan Pardew. He was made club captain in 2016, a title he held for many years. The Chronicle report that Wolves are keen on signing Lascelles, utilising the experience he has.

With Lascelles contract expiring this January could be the last time Newcastle can get a fee for him. Wolves will be hoping he recovers from his ACL injury sharp.

Who else could leave Newcastle United in January?

There are several players who have been linked with exits in January.

Most recently, Newcastle are reportedly willing to listen to offers for Kieran Trippier, the first signing of the new regime.

Miguel Almiron is also someone Newcastle will allow to leave in January. Almiron has played just five games in the Premier League this season and has failed to find the net. He reportedly has interest from the Saudi Pro League.

Callum Wilson could leave in January with his contract winding down. The 32-year-old has interest from four top flight clubs including Fulham and Crystal Palace. While a fee is possible, Wilson looks likely to leave the club in summer upon the expiry of his contract.
