Antonio Cordero rejected Real Madrid and Barcelona in order to join Newcastle United in the summer.

It was an enormous coup for Newcastle, who snagged the teenage winger from Malaga despite huge interest from other big clubs.

Newcastle were always going to send the winger out on loan this season, but the hope would be that he'd be sent to a club playing at a decent level, preferably in a UEFA competition.

Unfortunately, as Newcastle's loan department is absolutely shocking at their jobs, Cordero ended up at Belgian strugglers KVC Westerlo, where he's barely featured at all, playing just 98 minutes all season.

Newcastle are letting Antonio Cordero down

Newcastle are leaning towards terminating Antonio Cordero's loan with Westerlo

It's no secret that Newcastle have been weighing up their options with Cordero, and that a recall from his Belgian loan disaster had been discussed.

Now it is being reported that it is looking increasingly likely that he will be brought back to Newcastle in January, but he's unlikely to be sticking around for long.

There is reported interest from Spain, according to a report from Spanish outlet AS.

La Liga clubs are keen to give Antonio Cordero a shot

While AS doesn't mention any clubs specifically, it does state that it's clubs in La Liga who are eyeing the 19-year-old, and no matter which club he goes to in that league, he's going to be playing at a much higher level than he is in Belgium.

Of course, the big thing is that wherever he goes, that club adheres to the promises that are made in negotiations when it comes to how much time he'll get out on the pitch.

It's pointless sending him out to a club to gain experience if he's just going to sit on the bench as he has been in Belgium.

Antonio Cordero is thought to have a huge future in the game, so we need to make sure we're nurturing him properly. So far, we've let him down massively.
